V6 MGF/TF

The first V6 MGTF was built by Chris, owner of Retro Sports Cars, in 2004. People had said it couldn't be done, but Chris wanted to see for himself and completed the installation within a few months. He has since repeated the process for customers who wanted something a bit different in their MGF/TF. We are often asked if the K series V6 alters the handling of the car but we can categorically say that the slightly heavier rear end only makes the car feel more planted and the torque is phenomenal!

KV6 engine

This is a bare KV6 engine ready for all belts changing and new thermostat and clutch fitting before being installed into the modified MGF/TF subframe.

MGF V6 Conversion

First job on the V6 installation is to modify and strengthen the rear subframe to accommodate the V6 engine. Custom exhaust headers need to be manufactured to fit within the restricted engine bay.

Body modfication

The step in the body for the fuel tank has to be removed to allow the engine to fit into the engine bay.

Body modification

The engine bay is welded and ready for dressing and painting.

Inspection hatch

A removable panel is formed from the other side of the engine bay to allow access to the rear bank 's spark plugs and coil packs for maintenance.

Fuel tank

A custom fuel tank must be made as a small amount of space is lost with the bulkhead modifications but testing has shown that the custom tank holds 5 litres less than a standard tank.
